The female is much less colorful, as are many birds, but I think it is still beautiful, with a delicate brown, gray and light pink design. Below is a photo (not mine - although I did see them as well and couldn't figure out what they were). Click through the photo gallery in the link.
The high screech of the male is also intimidating. That is how it wards off rivals, which it WILL follow up with a fight (I've seen it!) if the intruder ignores the warning.
