Beshir the Martyr...

Image - Still from video (video available here and here) of panel discussion Cine de la liberación - dislocaciones binarias y diáspora negra.

It is fascinating that the Beshir-adulating Mexican programmers at the Festival Internacional de Cine UNAM gave a grand acknowledgment to Beshir at the end of the program. Beshir participated via zoom from her Brooklyn apartment.

I thought perhaps she didn't travel to Mexico because of limited funds (unlikely), or had nowhere to stay (unlikely).

It ends up (as we are informed at the end) that Beshir had undergone an operation.

Now, this is very private information to have repeated so publicly. Beshir could have simply told the programmers that due to unforeseen health and other reasons, she couldn't travel to Mexico, and had to participate via zoom.

She wanted people to think that this project brings out the martyr in her. Which is how the Mexican audience took it.

But God is ALWAYS telling us things. Beshir should listen.

Like the few topics that I follow doggedly on this blog, my instincts were right about this one.
